Screams as boy savaged by ‘pumped-up’ dog while neighbours charged with brooms

A 12-year-old boy was savagely attacked by an "aggressive" dog in Oldham, leaving him with life-changing injuries.

An eyewitness claimed the dog had followed the boy, who was on his bike, and he heard screams as the dog began "jumping all over him" and "gripped onto his arm," the Manchester Evening News reports.

Known only as Anj, the witness said: "It was an aggressive dog and he was only a little kid. He got off his bike because the dog was jumping at him. The kid was screaming and when I looked back at it, the dog had knocked him down and was dragging him on the floor. It was gripped onto him by his arm, his wrist."

Anj described the dog as "pumped up and aggressive", with terrified locals rushing over with broomsticks to try and scare the dog away before it then began chasing after other members of the public.

"He was screaming. People came out, the locals. People had broomsticks and things like that trying to fend the dog off but it wasn't going," he added.

"It felt like a long time it had hold of him. Lots of people got involved and the dog ran off at one point, maybe it got scared as there was so many people. Eventually the police came and they trapped it near one of the gardens. They had all their riot shields out and all their protective gear on."

"There was a lot of blood. I thought he wasn't going to make it. It was so bad to see. Really disturbing. Everyone around here is really shocked."
