Pet pig Pork Chop taken from owner after health concerns over 400-pound animal

The owner of a 400-pound pet pig has been left teary-eyed after her beloved Pork Chop was sadly taken away from her.

Now in the care of the Animal Care and Control in Florida, US, the massive pig was taken away primarily over concerns for its weight and has been deemed 'obese'. Kelly Jacobson's world was turned upside down on Thursday night (November 9) as Pork Chop was sadly taken from her home in Northwood Village, Florida.

She said: "I don't know what else to say about that. They took Pork Chop away from me." As well as the pig's obesity, it has also been revealed by officials that he suffers from skin condition and needs his nails and tusks groomed.

It's also reportedly not the first time that Jacobson has nearly had Pork Chop taken from her, with incidents also reported in September 2022 and February 2023.

A nearby business owner Stephen Schmidt didn't hold back in giving his side of the story as he said: "They heard it across the street squealing."

He added: "It was quite a distraction, I do know that,"

But Annertte Wrubleski, who runs a pig sanctuary called Laughing Pig two hours away in Central Florida sees things differently saying: "They're sentient beings. They're just incredible. They're so misunderstood."

Despite Pork Chop's apparent lack in levels of activity, she believes that the much talked about pig can be helped.

She continued: "It's going to be a long process so if he can't walk and he can't, he doesn't have that activity level to exercise, but it will come in time."

Meanwhile, in the UK a deadly new strain of Coronavirus has been discovered and has already killed 8,000 pets in Cyprus.

Boffins believe could spread quickly through the UK and wreak havoc among the feline population.

Unlike other strains scientists also believe that this is specific to animals.
