Monster 15ft crocodile heads towards school after being spewed out by cyclone

A shocking video has captured the moment a giant 15-foot crocodile crossed a road near a school in front of stunned drivers after bad weather triggered floods in the area.

The clip, which has gained more than 1,9000 views on social media, shows the dangerous predator crossing the tarmac near Velammal New Gen School in Chennai, India early this morning (December 4). Stunned motorists stopped to watch the beast as it disappeared into the darkness..

Bureaucrat Supriya Sahu said that the crocodile came out of a body of water after the Cyclone Michaung brought heavy rainfall throughout the night, causing some flooding in the area. The Tamil Nadu forest department has issued a warning to the public following the video being shared widely on X, the site formerly known as Twitter.

Additional Chief Secretary to Tamil Nadu Government Supriya Sahu tweeted: "Many are tweeting about this video. There are a few mugger crocodiles in several of the water bodies in Chennai.

"These are shy elusive animals and avoid human contact.This one has come out as the water has overflown due to massive rains under the impact of Cyclone Michuang please do not go close to water bodies.

"There is no possibility of harm to humans if these animals are left alone and unprovoked. No need to panic. Wildlife division has been alerted and they are on the job to avoid any untoward incident."

Viewers took to the comments stunned by the clip, with many feeling sympathy for the croc for being away from it's home due to the "confusing" weather conditions.

Mugger or marsh crocodiles are a species of medium-sized freshwater crocodile, according to WWF's Natural Habitat guide. They can grow to approximately 15-feet long and weigh as much as 1,500 pounds.
