Meghan Markle and Prince Harry mocked as pet dog’s name has ‘rude’ meaning

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been mocked multiple times for their pet dog's name, which has a nasty translation but also holds a special meaning.

Despite their lovely Labrador Pula bringing much joy to the family and reminding them of their first encounters with one another, the translation of the pup's name has been subject to ridicule.

The public were somewhat surprised at the naming of the animal, with one person given "quite the shock" when they realised what the name actually meant. Romanians were left reeling from the naming of the Sussex's pet.

Pula, the name given to the family pet, is slang for male genitalia in Romanian. The duo were likely unaware of this but an onslaught of mockery hit the duo back in May 2020.

One person took to X, formerly Twitter, and wrote: "Surely someone in their group would have Googled Pula to ensure it wasn’t Romanian for penis?"

But the duo, who picked up the pup and named it after the currency of Botswana, wanted the name of their pet to link to their early days together. The Duke and Duchess had spent some time in Africa just a few weeks after meeting one another.

The apparent and accidental blunder from the Sussex duo comes as they are named the most influential living royals, with the pair ranked much higher than Prince William and Princess Kate.

A new poll reported by the Daily Star revealed the duo were the most searched for members of the Royal Family behind the late Queen.

Prince William found himself in joint sixth place with his late mother Princess Diana while King Charles and Kate Middleton were nudged out of the top three in favour ofPrince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Frequent public appearances from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may have helped their notoriety for this latest list, with date nights and Invictus Games appearances all leaving their mark on the public.
