Lottery winner’s stroke of luck as he scoops £250k the same day he loses job

A very lucky bloke who lost his job of 20 years was rewarded with a whopping £230k lottery win on the very same day.

Eric Abbott thought his life was heading in the wrong direction recently when he was booted from his unidentified job.

But he was given life-changing news when an email informed him he had won the huge prize despite losing in the first round.

The lottery he won was the Lonoke, Arkansas, United States, Play It Again draw.

He initially had a non-winning scratch card for it, but ended up winning in the second round.

He said: “I woke up around 5am and decided to check my emails.

“I was shocked when I came across a lottery email saying I had won in one of those second-chance drawings!

“I immediately thought it was a scam, so I checked The Club website to see if my name was listed and called the lottery to confirm my win.”

The lucky man said his parents were the first ones he told about the lottery win.

When asked about how he plans to spend the prize, he revealed he will first treat himself with a new car and use the rest to help his family and friends.

He added: “This is truly a blessing, and I'm thankful for the opportunity to help alleviate their financial stress.”

A spokesman for the lottery said that the next lottery draw, on October 26, is going to have an even bigger price of around £450k, with 92% of each US dollar spent on it going to a local scholarship scheme.

The spokesman said: “Since 2009, the lottery has raised more than £1billion in proceeds for scholarships.

“More than 720,000 college scholarships have been awarded to Arkansans.

“The lottery has awarded more than £4.2billion in prizes to players, too.”
