Dodging axes and golf balls while trying to do Karaoke in London’s fun hub

With no major events on at The O2 the area around the massive dome can be eerily quiet, but once you step inside you'll find yourself dodging flying axes, darts and golf balls all while trying to do karaoke.

It does sound a bit manic, and that's because it is. Boom Battle Bar The O2 is as chaotic as the name suggests, and upon visiting I came out with tired legs and my senses heightened.

My voice, however, was intact. That's because heavy rain had flooded the karaoke rooms and spared my Christmas party colleagues the torture of my singing.

Thankfully, there was plenty more activities available to entertain our 30-strong squad. Spread across a compact area on the second floor was a Shuffleboard, Beer/Prosecco Pong, Axe Throwing, Crazier Golf and more.

"You can bring a mate, a date or your Grandad. They'll all love it," the company boasts online. But your grandad might swallow his teeth when he sees that a price of Brixton lager is ยฃ6.70, but this is London after all.

The place is awash with neon lights all set around a central circular bar, where the crew busily serve drinks to the growing crowds.

As time passes, the venue can seem a bit crowded and with nowhere obvious to hang a coat or store bags it does become a little bit like the back of a car when you're moving house. Packed, that is.

The 'crazier' golf is actually not that crazy either, it's eight not particularly colourful or wild holes stuffed in the corner as soon as you enter the second floor, meaning people who aren't playing the game can get in the way.

Axe throwing and the innovative interactive dart boards do make up for any shortcomings in the golf department, however.

The venue is also open seven days a week. From Monday to Friday, it's open between 12pm and 12am. On Saturday it's open from 10am to 12am and on Sunday from 10am to 10:30pm.

And as boring as this may sound, I rate a good hand dryer. So seeing that Mr James Dyson would be looking after me on that matter brought me great joy.

A full size mirror was also on hand to fully check whether I had spilled prosecco all down my front during one of the hotly contested prosecco-pong games.

Food is also on offer for those of us who do go over the top on the booze, or are just a bit peckish.

Boom Battle Bar at The O2 is rated four out of five stars on Tripadvisor. And if you can look past the slightly kitsch decor and tacky slogans that sound like something that Piers Morgan might say (see: 'Feel the Boom') then you will certainly agree that it is at least a four-star experience.

My colleagues were merry and from my hazy recollection, and photos of me smiling (rare), I think I enjoyed myself too. And although your grandad might swallow his teeth, he will certainly have fun before he does.
