Brit tourists accused of raping woman in Magaluf hotel room cover faces in court

The three British holidaymakers suspected of raping another UK tourist covered their faces with their T-shirts as they were escorted into court by armed police officers while in handcuffs.

The men alleged of committing the rape at a hotel – which remains unnamed – in Spain’s Magaluf, looked down and shielded their faces from the photographers waiting outside the court in the capital city of Majorca, Palma.

Prior to being taken to court on Saturday morning (August 26), the three Britons had spent the night in police cells after being arrested on Friday on suspicion of raping their accuser.

The men were stopped at Palma Airport, just minutes before they were due to board a flight to Manchester, Spanish police said.

A judge was due to question them before deciding whether to remand them in custody or release them on bail pending an ongoing probe.

The woman accusing the Brits of raping her also claims to have been drugged.

The results of tests carried out on the British woman in hospital to find any traces of suspicious substances have not yet been revealed. She is expected to testify as part of the investigation.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard had confirmed the arrests of the three “young men” on August 25.

Speaking on Friday, he added: “This morning a central response unit received an alert about a possible sexual aggression from a hotel in the municipality.”

The policeman referred to the municipality of Calvia, of which Magaluf is part.

He added: “A police patrol went to the hotel and spoke to a young tourist who told them she had been raped in the early hours of this morning by men she had met the night before.

“She also said she had suffered chemical submission, given that she felt completely unwell possibly because of the consumption of some type of drug. She said she didn’t know the identity of the alleged aggressors, just the nickname one of them used on a social network.”

Officers identified the alleged aggressors, the policeman said, “who had just abandoned the hotel with the intention of taking a flight back to their home country”.
