A seven-year-old boy has been wearing girls' clothes to school, and has been labelled an “inspiration” for doing so.

Theo Easton has been wearing girls clothes at home, mum Marion said, and said that he wanted to wear a pinafore when he went back after the summer holidays. And he has now been seen attending Hilltop Primary School in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire in full girls' uniform, including knee-high socks, brogues and a girls' polo shirt.

His 39-year-old mum said: “Theo as been wearing girls' clothes outside school for over a year. He's been out playing with his friends in both girls' and boys' clothes. It really just depends how he feels each day. He's a rough and tumble wee boy.

“He plays with Lego, and likes army games. He identifies as a boy, but he just doesn't feel comfortable in boys' clothes. I don't know if this will become full-time thing or not. He's only seven, so he's still experimenting.”

Marion claimed, when talking to the Daily Record, that his classmates have been supportive and told the lad that “we still love you no matter what you wear”. Despite the positivity from his school friends, and teachers, he has received abuse on TikTok, where the mother has posted videos of him.

The youngster has been told to “go to hell”, while Marion has also been hit with horrific abuse.

She said: “I know Theo is only seven but he wants the freedom to be who he wants to be. It's that straightforward for me. So I'm trying to let it go over my head because I'd rather my son was happy in the skin he's in than for him to develop psychological problems further down the line. I would never forgive myself if my son got to that stage in his life.

"He is just a happy wee boy who appreciates love, kindness and acceptance. The clothes he wears shouldn't define who he is as a person. I think this is a positive story and want people to hear it."
