Armed police ‘shoot woman shouting Allahu akbar’ in bust Paris train station

Police have opened fire on a woman who allegedly shouted “Allahu akbar” and threatened to “blow herself up” at a train station in Paris during rush hour.

Armed officers arrived at the station soon after 8.30am, and the woman, who was dressed in an Islamic veil, “threated to blow herself up”.

She is also said to have shouted “Allahu akbar”, Arabic for “God is the Greatest”.

“Fearing for their safety, the police opened fire around 9.20 a.m. She was then injured in the stomach and evacuated immediately”, a source said.

Authorities said they had no immediate information on the woman’s condition. It is believed she has stomach wounds after being shot.

French Police said officers opened fire after she didn’t respond to their warnings on the service near Bibliothèque François-Mitterrand station.

Police said officers responded after several train passengers phoned the emergency services and reported that a woman was making threats and that she was wearing a face and head covering.

It wasn’t clear what threats the woman was making.

A Metro and suburban train station that serves the François Mitterrand national library in eastern Paris has been evacuated, police said.

France has been under a ‘terror attack’ warning since October 13, when a teacher in the northern city of Arras was stabbed to death by an Islamist former pupil.

In the school attack, French-language teacher Dominique Bernard was stabbed to death and three other people were wounded.

The alleged attacker had been under police surveillance on suspicion of Islamic radicalization. French anti-terror investigators said the suspect declared allegiance to the Islamic State group before the assault in the northern French town of Arras.

French newspaper La Figaro said police had brought in dog and mine clearance teams to ensure there were no explosives at the station. It remains closed to the public.
