Parliament to be lit up in Israeli colours in tribute to the victims of Hamas

Israeli student begs ‘don’t kill me’ as she is snatched by terrorists

The two Speakers of the Houses of Parliament have authorised the historic building to be lit up in tribute to the victims of Hamas terrorism in Israel.

Express.co.uk understands that the Houses of Parliament will be lit in Israeli blue and white as MPs from all parties stand in solidarity with the plight of the country which suffered a surprise attack over the weekend.

The rare tribute was also seen when Parliament was lit up in blue and yellow in solidarity with Ukraine after Vladimir Putin’s Russian army invaded last year.

The move this evening reflects the widespread horror at the atrocities which have taken place with terrorists going door to door killing Israeli citizens, dragging others out of their cars, raping women and children and parading dead bodies through Gaza in front of cheering crowds.

Express.co.uk understand that a decision was made early over the weekend between Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle and Lords Speaker Lord McFall to make the public sign of solidarity with Israel.

It is also understood that equipment had to be brought in to light up Parliament which meant it was unable to happen over the weekend.

The move follows other iconic buildings around the world being lit up in support of Israel at a traumatic time.

Over the weekend the Empire State Building in New York was lit up in blue and white and Arc de Triomphe in Paris and Brandenburg Gate in Berlin have also been illuminated in Israeli flag-coloured lights.

The decision also reflects widespread support for Israel in the current crisis from political leaders in the main parties with both Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer standing by the country’s right to defend itself.

Fighting continues in Israel and the Gaza Strip after Hamas terrorists launched their surprise attacks by land, sea and air on Saturday.
