USA: Dealers turning away EVs to avoid large inventory

The wave of early adopters willing to get their hands on an electric vehicle has faded

According to reports, car dealers in the USA are refusing to take delivery of EVs to avoid having a large inventory that they can’t sell.

As per dealers, the wave of early adopters willing to get their hands on an electric vehicle has faded, resulting in the demand for EVs to plateau. The dealers also mention that cost-conscious customers have now become apprehensive about making the transition.

Scott Kunes, of Kunes & RV Group, stated that his company has started “turning away EV inventory”. He mentioned that automakers are asking dealers to invest in EVs, however, dealers want to see a return on their investment. Kunes further added that the conversations in showrooms aren’t just about the price, but about the change in lifestyle associated with electric vehicles.

Reports also mention that while automakers will continue to produce EVs, it will become the dealer’s responsibility to actually sell them to customers in a reliable way.
