‘I’m a car expert – the latest electric Volvo’s hidden features keep it simple’
The popular motoring YouTuber Doug DeMuro has revealed a number of hidden features that can be discovered on the latest electric Volvo.
Doug has gained nearly 4.8million subscribers on his YouTube channel thanks to his videos reviewing a wide range of cars, from cutting-edge family models to iconic classics.
In a recent video, Doug takes a look at some of the features that are found on the new Volvo EX30, an affordable electric SUV that does not feature a key.
He explained: “For one thing, there’s no key. Instead, you get this credit card-sized keycard which functions as the key. You hold it in a certain spot, and it unlocks the doors, and you can climb in.
“That way you can keep it in a wallet or purse, and you won’t lose your key. Volvo says you’ll soon have the functionality to use your cell phone as a key so, as long as you have your phone on you, you can just climb inside, and it’ll automatically unlock, and you can drive away.”

Rather than owners having to press a button on a manual key fob, the Volvo EX30 features a thin card which unlocks the car when it is nearby, similar to keyless entry on many other models.
Getting inside the new Volvo, Doug praised the unusual-looking interior, which features plenty of recycled materials, such as the unusually textured door cards, which are made from recycled window frames.
He also noted that many parts of the interior are incredibly minimalist, which helps to keep the car looking tidy and cut costs.

As a result, Doug noted that many of the controls motorists expect in their car can be found in some unusual locations, such as the controls for the windows.
He continued: “You don’t have an overwhelming amount of buttons or switches or controls, in fact you basically have none at all. To illustrate that, let’s start with the things you’d expect to find on the door panel.
“The power window switches are located here in the centre. There are only two switches, left and right. If you want to roll down the back windows you tap this icon that says ‘rear’ and then your window switches control the rear windows. Tap it again and they’re back to the front.”

Finally, the popular YouTuber noted that the Volvo EX30 has a hidden storage compartment to keep valuables safe from thieves thanks to an unusual way of opening it.
He added: “And speaking of the screen, it also opens up the glove box. So, you can see at the bottom here there’s an icon that says ‘glovebox’. You push that and it opens up in the centre, in the middle, instead of on the passenger side of the dashboard.
“This is very unorthodox but allows Volvo to cut costs. They have to make a left-hand drive version for some countries, a right-hand drive version for others. But putting the glove box in the middle means there’s one less thing to change when they build this car.”
