A lad has been denied a £50 prize for demolishing a 4,500 calorie mixed grill challenge, causing uproar at the steakhouse.

Controversial rulings on the Devon-based eatery has seen the Cattlemans Steakhouse claim the lad did not complete the challenge after he snubbed the side salads. He has since missed out on the £50 prize for conquering the meat platter.

Despite powering through the 20oz rump steak, 12oz gammon, four sausages, three chicken wings, a chicken breast and a 6oz cheeseburger, Dan skimped on the side salad and thus failed the challenge.

The steakhouse posted photos showing Dan had conquered the silver platter of meat but had passed on the salad and mushrooms. TikTok users are absolutely livid with the decision after the restaurant says Dan came "so close" to completing the challenge.

One irate social media user says the steakhouse is "taking the p**s" and the salad "shouldn't be there". Owner Gary King has defended the restaurant's response though.

"The challenge is to eat everything," he said. A photo posted to the Cattlemans Steakhouse social media showed a full plate of mushrooms and salads, in turn voiding the attempt Dan made.

Controversy stems from the restaurant failing to list salad in the breakdown of the challenge, and Mr King has since admitted he feels bad for the meat-lover. Gary said: "It's simple. It's a challenge and the challenge is to eat and clear everything, otherwise it wouldn't be a challenge.

"Had he said to us that he didn't want any salad then we'd have put a few more chips or onion rings on. He didn't say anything at the start or while he was eating it. His exact words were 'I know it's stupid but I'm not going to eat that salad. Not even for £50 because I don't eat salad'.

"I felt sorry when I saw the pictures because if I'd have spoken to him beforehand then he may well have said he didn't want salad. Once it's on that table, That's it. There's no point in telling us afterwards because we're not going to strip the salad off and give him a bowl of chips and a bowl of onion rings, are we?"

But responses to the void attempt are fuming, with one person saying: "Naaa he finished that." Others did not hold as much sympathy for salad-hating Dan, with one saying: "So you're telling me he munched all of that but when it got the salad he tapped out. Yeah, get a grip."
