The Kremlin has given its biggest hint yet that there could be some truth to the claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin has actually died.

Earlier today, the Daily Star reported the wild claims that Putin had succumbed to the myriad of apparent health issues he has allegedly been suffering for nearly two years, with a heart attack earlier this week proving the final nail in the coffin. The source of the claims is a Telegram channel called General SVR, which is thought to be led by a Kremlin insider, and it said that Putin had died at his Valdai residence with a “coup” was underway to replace the 71-year-old.

This forced the Kremlin to deny it for the second time in 48 hours, with Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov telling state media RIA Novosti that the report was an “absurd information canard”. But it now appears that the Kremlin has given a huge hint that actually there could be some truth to it.

According to the same Russian news outlet that reported the denial comments, Putin was due to attend the opening of a new Russian exhibition and forum at Russian's Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy – also known as the VDNKh.

The event starts on November 4, and was scheduled to be a rare public outing for the dictator – but Peskov has now admitted that Putin won't be there.

He said: “He won’t come to the opening, but the fact that one way or another he will look at it, of course, is a must. The exhibition is really worth seeing, there is a gigantic amount of work involved.”
