A disgusting video has apparently revealed the aftermath of a Delta flight passenger's 'explosive diarrhoea' that forced the plane to return to the airport.

In the clip, which was shared on social media this week, a stream of liquid faeces was seen dripping down the aisle of the jet.

The footage, which has garnered more than 2.1million views, is believed to have been filmed following the mid-flight disaster on Friday evening (September 1).

Reports say the situation unfolded just two hours into the Delta Airlines flight from Atlanta, Georgia to Barcelona, with the plane over Virginia, when the pilot sent a message asking to return to Atlanta.

Viewers were left stunned by the 7-second clip as they immediately took to the comments to poke fun at the situation.

One user joked: "“I’m tired of all this motha f***in diarrhoea on this motha f***in plane”! -Samuel L. Jackson, probably."

Another added: "That person’s insides were liquefied!!"

A third quipped: "Sh*t happens."

It comes after the pilot's message to air traffic control was released on X and in the recording, they say: “This is a biohazard issue.

"We’ve had a passenger who’s had diarrhoea all the way through the airplane, so they want us to come back to Atlanta.”

Passengers on the plane took to social media to share their experiences.

One said: "My partner was on that flight! It was pretty bad. It dribbled down the aisle, smelled horrible.

"The vanilla-scented disinfectant used on it only made it smell like vanilla s**t."

Another passenger on the Airbus A350 said the cleanup operation saw the whole carpet replaced.

John Hurdt wrote: "Both my wife and I were on the flight. It was a mess. The pilots made the right decision to turn around.

"The ground crew ripped out the carpet and put new in. Considering the circumstances, the ground crew did a great job, along the attendants and the pilots."

The flight eventually resumed after a delay of around five hours and landed in Barcelona at 5.10pm, eight hours behind schedule.

A statement from Delta said: "Our teams worked as quickly and safely as possible to thoroughly clean the airplane and get our customers to their final destination.

"We sincerely apologize to our customers for the delay and inconvenience to their travel plans."
