A 74-year-old professor at a university has won a rare victory over France’s opposition to allowing the elderly to continue working.<\/p>\n
In order to convince a judge that the University of Caen in Normandy had wrongfully sacked him from his position as a part-time law lecturer because he was older than the legal retirement age of 67, Jean-Jacques Thouroude used his knowledge of public administration law.<\/p>\n
Thouroude, who was fired in 2021, launched legal action against the institution and presented his own case in May before an administrative court, a branch of the judicial system responsible for resolving problems between governmental entities.<\/p>\n
He received a favourable verdict from the court.<\/p>\n
The well-known age limit of 67 drove the University’s decision.<\/p>\n
