Sicko who strangled backpacker Grace Millane and dumped body appeals conviction
The man who murdered Brit backpacker Grace Millane on a Tinder date before stuffing her body in a suitcase is appealing his murder conviction.
The 28-year-old killer, who tried to claim Grace died during 'rough sex', has hired a new lawyer as he refuses to accept the conviction and life sentence for the horrific murder, the Mirror reports.
The brute, who under New Zealand 'name suppression' law still cannot be sentenced, has reportedly entered a notice of appeal after after he was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum non-parole period of 17 years following a three-week-long trial.
Grace was strangled to death the day before her 22nd birthday after going on a Tinder date with the man in Auckland in December 2018.
At his trial last year the man denied murder and tried to claim the young Essex backpacker's death was an accident after the pair had 'rough sex' at his apartment.
However the prosecution said he had strangled 21-year-old Grace for between five to ten minutes, before taking intimate photographs, and watching hardcore pornography before trying to cover up his crime.
Stuff.co.nz reported New Zealand's Crown Law prosecution service had confirmed the appeal had been served.
The Court of Appeal has reportedly not yet provided the notice of appeal to New Zealand media, as a judge had declined an application.

The grounds of the appeal are not yet known, and a date for the hearing has not yet been set, according to local reports.
Grace's killer has appointed a new lawyer to deal with the appeal case with the assistance of his former lawyers, Stuff reports.
Grace's grieving parents were forced to listen in court to the devastating details of her death.
Her killer had folded Grace's body into a suitcase and buried her in a shallow grave in the Waitakere Ranges, on the outskirts of Auckland city.
His trial was told how he went on a Tinder date with another woman while marketing graduate Grace's body lay in his room.
Grace from Wickford in Essex, was six weeks into a backpacking "trip of a lifetime" when she was killed.
Grace's mum Gillian, directly addressed the killer following the trial.
She said her loss made her want to take her own life.
"On a daily basis I torment myself over what you did," Gillian said, during the killer's sentencing.
"The tears I shed are never-ending at the thought of never having the chance to kiss my Grace goodbye."
