Porn website crashes after offering coronavirus quarantined users free films
A porn website in Japan crashed hours after announcing it had released 200 free films for users to help them make it through the coronavirus pandemic.
Japanese adult video producer Soft on Demand (SOD) released 200 of its titles for free to users from March 13 until March 31 as a large number of the population are staying at home to stop the spread of COVID-19.
However, local media report hours after the announcement the site crashed seemingly from a huge spike in visitors overwhelming the servers.
The site is now back up and running, with users having to register as a member before being able to download the 200 films for 0 JPY.
Local media report SOD said the first 200 people who downloaded a free film would receive the company's masturbation aid called a Basara, which was designed to look like a plastic drink bottle.
SOD is reportedly one of the largest adult video companies operating in Japan and was founded in 1995.
Large numbers of manga producers in Japan have also made their content free-to-access online to help keep the population entertained as many schools are closed and large numbers of workers have been told to stay at home.
Japan has suffered 839 confirmed cases of COVID-19, leading to 22 deaths.
Pornhub has reported a huge surge in traffic thanks to randy users stuck at home.
There's also been a rise in popularity for an unusual new genre of porn that involves coronavirus patients and doctors in erotic scenarios, many of which contain public safety messages about hygiene.
