Meghan Markles mum bonding with Lilibet and helping Harry – who adores her

Meghan Markle’s mum is getting to know her granddaughter and providing an extra pair of hands for her and Prince Harry – who "just adores her".

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomedLilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsorinto the world on Friday, June 4.

Senior royals including Prince Charles and the Queen were delighted by the news, with Her Majesty said to be “overjoyed”.

Meghan’s mum Doria Ragland is now helping the couple out.

An insider told US Weekly: “They’ve had lots of lovely gifts sent from friends and family members including Doria, but the most special thing she’s provided is her time.

“She’s been helping out at the house and her hands-on support is a major bonus.”

The source continued: “Meghan’s so grateful to have her mom to lean on, and Harry just adores her.”

Meghan and Harry relocated to Montecito, California, last year after initially leaving the UK for Canada, with her mum just 90 miles away in Los Angeles.

After Archie’s birth in 2019, she spent several weeks in England with her grandson.

After Lilibet was born, Meghan and Harry said they felt “blessed” and thanked fans for their “love and prayers”.

The source added: “They are so in love with her, and she’s absolutely beautiful. She’s a cross between Harry and Meghan.”

The couple paid tribute to the Queen with their daughter’s first name, one of Her Majesty's childhood monikers.

However, royal expert Richard Kay claims sources are confused by the selection.

He wrote in theDaily Mailyesterday: "[An] aspect baffling courtiers was why, having chosen the name Lilibet in honour of the Queen, the couple intend to call their daughter Lili – something Harry's grandmother was never known by."

He went on: "Lilibet has a special resonance for the Queen: it was invented by her grandfather King George V, adopted by her mother and father, and used affectionately by her sister Margaret and later by her husband.

"And while it is also used by cousins such as Princess Alexandra and the Duke of Kent, only two younger members of the family are permitted to call her Lilibet.

"They are her niece Lady Sarah Chatto and nephew David, the Earl of Snowdon. And both preface it with the word 'Aunt'."
