Man guns down postal worker after she refused to deliver mail due to vicious dog

A man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after he gunned down a postal worker for refusing to deliver his mail because of his unruly dog.

Tony Cushingberry, 23, fatally shot mail carrier Angela Summers, 45, following a dispute over missing mail in Indiana, USA.

According to federal prosecutors, he had become infuriated at postal workers because they stopped delivering to his address due to the small aggressive dog.

It was reported that he received warning letters from the US Postal Service who had told him to secure the pet before they suspended his mail delivery.

On April 7, 2020, he approached the worker about his missing mail and followed her onto a neighbour’s porch.

This sparked Summers to spray him with Mace before he pulled out a handgun and shot her in the chest.

He fled the scene and she was sadly pronounced dead in hospital.

The 23-year-old was arrested the following day and reportedly admitted to shooting Summers. But he claimed he only wanted to frighten her.

Cushingberry entered his plea of second-degree murder on Wednesday (July 6), reports New York Post.

It has been reported that he faces a maximum of life in federal prison. His sentencing date is yet to be confirmed.

US attorney Zachary Myers said: “Letter carrier Summers was a dedicated public servant simply doing her job when she was senselessly murdered.

According to Fox59, the mother didn't have life insurance from the USPS at the time of her death.

USPS Inspector-in-Charge Rodney Hopkins commented: "We hope that this case’s resolution will serve as a deterrent to those criminal actors who threaten the fundamental right of a safe work environment for our nation’s postal employees."
