Joseph Saiz sentenced to 24 years in prison for armed Arvada carjacking

A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for an armed carjacking in Arvada.

Joseph Raymond Saiz was sentenced last week after pleading guilty on Aug. 17 to aggravated robbery, vehicular assault and menacing, according to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

On Dec. 14, 2019, police were called to the 5900 block of West 68th Avenue on an armed carjacking. Saiz forced a 34-year-old victim to the ground at gunpoint and stole his truck.

Officers spotted the stolen truck and attempted to stop it but Saiz fled at a high speed, according to a news release. Saiz crashed into multiple vehicles, injuring a 75-year-old woman. He fled the crash on foot but was arrested on Jan. 8, 2020.

Saiz fired multiple shots at officers as he eluded them after the carjacking, the release said.

A female codefendant who was in the stolen truck with Saiz pleaded guilty Aug. 17 to robbery and false reporting. She will be sentenced on Sept. 28.

On the day of the carjacking, Saiz was on bond and probation in two other Colorado counties, the DA’s office said. The carjacking conviction was his fourth felony conviction in Colorado.
