Jeremy Kyle-style teen tearaway ‘shoots husband dead in front of three kids’
A former teenage tearaway who starred in a Jeremy Kyle-like talk show is back in jail accused of shooting her husband dead in front of their children in a shopping car park.
Kayla Giles faces a murder trial after Thomas Coutee Jr., 30, was shot in the chest while they exchanged custody of their two-year-old girl and her two stepchildren.
The toddler had been on her way to celebrate her second birthday at Chuck E. Cheese in a Walmart in 2018.
Giles, who appeared on the US TV talk show Maury, was arrested after her husband died at the scene in Alexandria, Louisiana, CrimeOnline reports.
This week Giles's defense lawyer George Higgins submitted she was “acting to prevent an unlawful entry into her motor vehicle and she reasonably believed that use of deadly force was necessary at that time", KALB reports.
He wrote in a legal motion: “[The] only issue that is possible at trial is whether or not the victim was attempting to gain unlawful access to a motor vehicle occupied by the defendant."
But Giles, who had been released on an electronic tag, is back in custody after being accused of scamming her sister-in-law.
She was charged with criminal conspiracy, identity theft, government benefits fraud, and money laundering on Monday.

Coutee’s sister, Megan Wiggins, told CrimeOnline that she was one of Giles's victims of identity theft.
Giles’ arrest affidavit indicated that someone contacted police after noticing “unemployment benefits through nine separate deposits from the state of California.”
The victim said she received a Bank of America card in her name that she never used. The victim also said she wasn’t eligible for unemployment benefits.
Investigators uncovered that Giles’ and an accomplice, 33-year-old Teri Thibodeaux, used ATM machines and cellphone apps to withdraw the money after creating bogus unemployment claims.
In 2005, Giles and her mother spoke to the likes of Trisha Goddard on a “Maury Show” episode about out of control teens.
Her mother moaned that she was drinking, smoking and doing drugs at age 15 and had failed eighth grade three times.
