Faulty speed camera sparks chaos flashing all cars – even if they aren’t moving

Hundreds of cars have been incorrectly flashed by a rogue speed camera on one of Manchester's busiest roads.
A camera on Mosley Common Road near Boothstown was spotted indiscriminately flashing motorists as they drove by despite most obeying the speed limit, reported Manchester Evening News.
Drivers reported being flashed multiple times by the camera as they slowly approached traffic lights, while some were completely stationery and still found themselves drawing the ire of the dodgy camera.

Disgruntled drivers descended on Facebook detailing their speed-cam woes on Monday night (February 20).
One person wrote in a local Facebook group: "Got me about 20 times last night stopped at lights… be fuming if I get a ticket."
Another person added: "Got me 10 times this morning on for a ban me thinks."
Transport for Greater Manchester confirmed the camera had not been working properly and had been fixed by Tuesday morning (February 21).
It said drivers who were flashed incorrectly would not get a speeding ticket.
A spokesperson for Safer Roads Greater Manchester, which conducts maintenance on speed cameras in the area, said: “Safety camera faults happen occasionally can lead to the camera flashing in an uncontrolled manner as shown in this video.
"The maintenance contractor attended the camera on at around 11am on Tuesday, January 21 and the issue was resolved shortly after. All images from the cameras are manually viewed and checked before any offence is issued, and Greater Manchester Police have been made aware of this fault.”

It is not the first time drivers have been flashed for no good reason by a pesky speed camera.
In Bath in December last year, Avon and Somerset Police were made aware of faulty camera flashing law abiding motorists.
They said at the time: "Any motorists who drove past the fixed camera in Saltford within the speed limit at the time of the fault can be assured they won’t be subject to a notice of intended prosecution being issued."
While in July of last year, drivers on the M27 westbound reported getting snapped by the camera despite being well below the speed limit.
