Doctor sells newborn baby after parents confess they can’t pay hospital bill

Police officers raided a hospital after it was revealed a doctor there had sold off a newborn baby when its parents revealed they could not pay their medical bills.

After a young couple had a baby in Tulamba, Pakistan, they were presented with a medical bill by the hospital.

Shockingly, according to local reports, when they told hospital administrators they were unable to afford the medical bill a doctor forcibly took the child and then sold it to a childless couple.

The couple said they hadn’t realised quite how high the hospital’s charges for childbirth would be.

The Arabic-language Al-Hurra website reports that after the couple learned that their baby had been sold to a local man named Faisal they contacted local police and officers were sent to the hospital to investigate.

After some discussion, the baby was restored to its parents and the doctor responsible for the incident was briefly taken in to custody.

It’s now understood that the doctor has been released and the hospital has asked the couple not to press charges.

It has not been reported how much the hospital bill was, or how much Faisal paid for the baby.

In October last year, a Russian woman is alleged to have sold her own baby for just £250. The child was taken away from the buyer but placed in foster care rather than being returned to its mother.

Just two weeks before that, another Russian woman was reported to have tried to sell her baby for the equivalent of £3,000, but was caught in a sting operation by police.

Luiza Gadzhieva advertised her tiny daughter on the black market before accepting £3,000 from undercover law enforcement officers.

In June 2020, a drug-addicted couple from the south-western Chinese city of Neijiang were found by police in a hotel room surrounded by cash and drugs after selling their baby boy to a couple they met online
