CU Buffs’ Quay Miller, Jaylyn Sherrod named first-team All-Pac-12 The Denver Post

For the first time since joining the Pac-12 a dozen years ago, the Colorado women’s basketball team landed two players on the all-conference first team.

Overall, several Buffaloes were honored Monday, as the Pac-12 announced its annual awards, as voted on by league coaches. The awards were announced a day before the start of the conference tournament in Las Vegas.

Senior guard Jaylyn Sherrod and senior center Quay Miller both landed on the 16-player all-conference first team after helping the Buffs (22-7) to a third-place finish. Junior Frida Formann and sophomore Aaronette Vonleh both earned honorable mention.

In addition, Sherrod was named to the all-defensive team and Vonleh earned co-most improved player honors.

In the previous 11 seasons, CU had just six first-team honors, but never two in the same season. The last time CU had two players earn first-team all-conference honors was in 1994-95 (Isabelle Fijalkowski and Shelley Sheetz) when it was in the Big Eight.

Miller, last year’s sixth player of the year, averaged 14.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game this season. Sherrod averaged 11.1 points and leads the Pac-12 in assists (5.0 per game) and steals (2.36 per game).

Sherrod was named to the five-player all-defensive team for the second time in her career (also 2020-21).

Forman (11.4 points per game) and Vonleh (11.9 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game) both earned all-conference recognition for the first time.

A transfer from Arizona, Vonleh shared the most improved player award with her former Wildcats teammate, Shaina Pellington. Vonleh averaged 4.1 points as a freshman at Arizona, but rarely played once conference play began. This year, she’s a full-time starter and one of the key players for the Buffs.

“I’m so proud of every member of our team for all that they have poured into our program all year long,” head coach JR Payne said. “It is truly an honor for several members of our team to be recognized as all-conference players. The Pac-12 is full of incredibly talented young women. For our players to be recognized in such an elite group speaks to the talent that we have here at Colorado and the amount of time that they have poured into their craft.”

Utah’s Alissa Pili was voted as the Pac-12 player of the year, while the Utes’ Lynne Roberts was named the coach of the year.

Stanford’s Cameron Brink was named the defensive player of the year. Oregon State’s Raegan Beers, from Valor Christian High School, earned freshman of the year and sixth player of the year honors.
