Coronavirus horror: Armed forces patrolling Spain as Europe’s second-worst outbreak rises
As Spain quickly spirals into Europe’s second-worst outbreak of coronavirus following Italy, the Spanish Government has taken drastic measures. As of now, the nation is in near-lockdown in hopes of tempering the pandemic. This also includes allowing members of the military to patrol and control the streets, according to the BBC’s Madrid reporter Guy Hedgecoe.
Mr Hedgecoe told the Today show: “We’ve had the sight of members of the armed forces patrolling the street in some cities since yesterday.
“We’re told they were doing that because they’re trying to identify areas that might need disinfection.
“Areas where people had been gathering despite these restrictions.
“Also we’ve heard from the health ministry which is putting private hospitals under its own control.”
