A Chinese whistleblower has revealed US authorities were warned about a potential worldwide virus in Wuhan four months before the Covid pandemic was declared.
Defector and democracy campaigner Wei Jingsheng claims that the crucial warning was ignored by officials despite his repeated attempts.
The former Chinese Communist Party insider made the revelation in a new Sky News Australia documentary called ’What Really Happened in Wuhan’.
Mr Jingsheng said he alerted US intelligence agencies back in November 2019 but said officials were not "heavily concerned".
He said: “I felt they were not as heavily concerned as I was so I tried my best to provide more detailed information."
He continued: “They may not believe there is (a) government of a country that would do something like that (cover up a virus). So I kept repeating myself in an effort to try to persuade them.”
His attempts to warn the world came over a month before China alerted the World Health Organisation (WHO) there was an outbreak on December 31, 2019.
Mr Jingsheng found out about the virus from his high-level contacts in Beijing and relayed the information to US politicians from the White House.

He did not reveal the politician he spoke to but said they were in a position to speak to the US president at the time, Donald Trump.
Speaking in the documentary, the defector said: “I'm not sure if this politician wants me to talk about him right here. But I want to say he is a high enough politician, high enough to be able to reach the President of the United States.”
The WHO first declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on January 30 in 2020.

This announcement came after the first Covid cases were reported cases in the US were recorded.
It was not until March 11 that the WHO declared Covid was now a global pandemic.
The pandemic has killed over 4.5 million people worldwide and affected people and economies in more than 200 countries.
The documentary, ’What Really Happened in Wuhan’ is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Sky News Australia on Monday and is based on a new book of the same name by journalist Sharri Markson.
The WHO are still investigating what caused the outbreak.
