Chinese soldier filmed ‘running on water’ like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
This is the moment a Chinese soldier shows off his kung fu skills by "running on water" while leaping over two water-filled bowls – copying a technique immortalised in the martial arts film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
The impressive move obtained a cult following after it was first portrayed in Ang Lee’s 2000 classic, where the exaggerated skill shows action stars also running along treetops while wielding swords.
In the video from March 8, People’s Armed Police member Li Zhouxuan can be seen taking a long run-up as he sprints towards two basins of water balanced on a pair of logs.

As he jumps over the obstacles, he treads on the water in both basins, skipping lightly across without knocking the vessels over or soaking his shoes as he lands.
The effect is that it looks like he is walking on water – but it seems that he may have just skimmed the surface with his feet while mid-leap.
Mr Li is a member of the paramilitary force’s Chicheng Detachment in the city of Zhangjiakou, which is in China’s northern province of Hebei.

Hebei Armed Police said that running on water is not part of its officers’ daily training regime.
In kung fu, the ability to skip or "fly" over objects is achieved by practising a technique known as Qinggong.
Training to boost stamina and lung capacity involves running repeatedly up a wooden plank placed at increasingly steep gradients.
In martial arts films, Qinggong is often exaggerated to show masters running up vertical walls in gravity-defying action scenes.
