Chef swarmed by armed police ‘5 times’ because umbrella looks like Samurai sword

A chef is flogging his 'Samurai sword' umbrella on Ebay after growing fed up of being swarmed by armed police.

Mike Devlin, 50, says he has been held at gun point several times as passersby have reported him to be walking around with a weapon on his back.

Both the handle and the bag that holds the brolly, closely resemble a Samurai sword which is why officers recently confiscated it.

That was the final straw for Mike's partner who has now ordered him to get rid of it.

The offending item was returned to him by cops last week but Mike from Exeter, Devon, concedes it is a good time to list it for sale under the banner of Britain’s ‘most troublesome brolly’.

He said: “I got it back after I received a call from Exeter’s armed response unit, and sure enough a couple of hours later, an armed officer handed it back.

“He advised me that whilst I am doing nothing wrong, I really shouldn’t be carrying it over my shoulder.

“He said it only takes one person to tackle you and you fight back, and we mistakenly shoot you. That was along the lines he was going with.

“So, it is with regret I am selling it, not least because my other half would prefer it if I didn’t come home dead. She now owes me big time.”

On the eBay listing Mike states: “My other half doesn’t want me to get shot by the police. Y’see, couple of weeks ago, I had four assault rifles pointed at me, and surrounded by eight police officers as I made my way home.

“This was the fifth time I have ran into armed officers (or should I say they have come running to me, including back-up units, and sending helicopters out), and whilst I have always found it highly amusing, she is, however, not overly enthused by it.

“So, here I am offering this immaculate umbrella that undoubtedly has caused more trouble in the UK than any other umbrella in British history.

"The winner will (reluctantly)receive the umbrella, and the police return sheet – they took it off me the last time, only for an armed officer to return it to me a few days ago.”

Mike said he found the attention it has got over the last four years ridiculous.

He added: “You kind of get used to people pointing guns at you after a while.
