British cyclist killed in hit and run in Spain as driver arrested

A British cyclist, aged in his 60s, has died in a hit-and-run incident in Spain.

The man, who has not been identified, but is reportedly aged 69, was thrown from his bike on a road in the Torre municipality, near Almeria on Sunday at about 10.30am. 

Emergency services were called to the area, near to a local fire station.

Despite the efforts of medical staff, the man died as a result of his injuries.

According to Spanish media sources, the driver who struck the cyclist did not stop to help the victim.

Civil Guard officials have confirmed the arrest of a man on suspicion of manslaughter and failing to stop at the scene of the accident. 

The suspect appeared before a judge in a closed court and was released on bail pending further investigation.

Meanwhile, the identity of the victim has not been disclosed, and it is unclear whether he was a local resident or a tourist.

It is believed that the victim was cycling alone at the time of the incident.
