Boy, 8, tragically orphaned as mum dies of cancer after dad’s sudden death
An eight-year-old boy who lost his dad has now been left tragically orphaned after his mum died of cancer.
Vicky Myers, 35, “hung on as much as she could” to spend as much time as possible with her son William, a friend said.
He was just two years old when his musician dad John died in 2015, aged 32.
The schoolboy and his mum spent one final Christmas together at home before Vicky succumbed to the disease on January 11, the Mirror reports.
Tributes poured in for the courageous mum from Thornaby, North Yorkshire, who had previously recovered from triple-negative breast cancer after she found a lump in 2017.
Her longtime pal Lorraine Mulgrew described her as “the most courageous woman I've met”.
She added: “She fought so hard to the bitter end and has left behind so many broken hearted family and friends.
“She was absolutely devoted to her son William aged eight and did everything she could to spend as much time as possible with him until she was no longer able to fight.”

William is now being looked after by Vicky’s retired mum Janet.
Lorraine said: "He is struggling, as anybody would.
"He just lost his mum and is facing life without his parents.
"She battled through all the pain and I think she tried to get herself through Christmas to give him one last Christmas, the best Christmas she possible could."
Last February, days after Vicky’s dad Jeff, 66, died from long-term health problems, she was told the cancer had returned.
Doctors revealed it had taken over a third of her liver and delivered the devastating blow they could do nothing to save her.
Following her diagnosis, the former GP receptionist was determined to make lasting memories with her son.
But she was forced to shield when the coronavirus pandemic hit.
She continued with gruelling treatment throughout the year but was unable to travel.
When lockdown restrictions eased, she took up horse riding and enjoyed her summer with William by her side.
She was due to start a new round of chemotherapy on January 11, the day she died.
But it was decided the day before the treatment shouldn't go ahead because nothing else could be done.
Lorraine is now raising money to help support the ongoing care for the boy.
She wrote on a JustGiving page: “Vicky's Mam Janet who was at Vicky's side until she took her last breath made a promise to Vicky that she would care for William the best she could.”
