Boy, 8, shoots baby girl dead through motel wall while playing with dad’s gun

An eight-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed a baby girl through the wall of a motel room after playing with his father's gun.

Roderick Randall, 45, has been charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of culpable negligence by failure to safely store a firearm after the horrific incident at the Lion's Motel in Pensacola, Florida.

A police report said he had left his gun inside a holster in a cupboard, with his son able to gain access to it while he was out of the room.

The boy accidentally fired a live round which punctured through the wall between the rooms and killed one-year-old Kasey Bass and injured her two-year-old sister.

Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said the two-year-old is expected to recover.

Both girls belong to Randall's partner, who was asleep when the shooting happened. Randall, his son, his girlfriend and her three daughters were all sharing the same room.

He went to the room after the incident to remove the weapon and what police allege were drugs before then returning to the scene

A GoFundMe page has now been set up by the family to help pay for the baby's funeral costs.
