Scarborough has been named the place to be for the Easter holidays

Scarborough has been revealed as the UK's most popular destination for Easter holidays, in new rankings.

While Brits flock to the likes of Spain, Greece and Portugal in summer, over spring the UK tends to be a firm favourite with families who want a break that doesn't involve too much travel.

Luckily Airbnb has provided plenty of inspiration as it has unveiled the most popular destinations for Easter time both in the UK and abroad.

The top trending destination within Britain was, of course, a seaside town – Scarborough in North Yorkshire.

The pretty resort town looks out at the North Sea and has gorgeous sandy beaches in its two bays.

There’s also a 12th Century castle on the headland which is perfect for history and photography buffs.

When looking for something to do other that making sandcastles you can head into the town where there are plenty of shops and restaurants.

Family holidays will be a blast if you choose to visit Luna Park which has lots of rides and the Playdale Farm Park where you can see animals and go summer sledging.

Up next was Belfast in Northern Ireland – a bustling city with great shopping at St George's Market.

There's also the Titanic museum for an educational visit about the infamous sunken ship.

Adults who choose to head to Belfast can indulge in the clubs and bars while families may prefer to wander around the Botanic Gardens or Belfast Castle.

In the third top spot for staycations was the Peak Forest in Derbyshire, England.

Attractions include water parks, nearby caverns perfect for caving adventures and, of course, stunning countryside to hike through.

If you’re one to stay at home rather than go abroad then Airbnb has plenty of trendy properties.

You can stay in a cosy woodland tiny home in Ripponden, England from just £70 a night.

Or, head up to Scotland and relax into the wilderness from £75 a night.

You can also head up the Burj Khalifa building to take in the view from 160-stories high.

Nice, on the French Riviera, gets plenty of sunshine and has beautiful views out over the Med.

If you’re looking for something a little more cultural then there are beautiful cathedrals or you can hop on a bus over to Monaco and see the casinos and super cars.

In third top trending position for International breaks was Copenhagen in Denmark.

There’s plenty to do in Copenhagen from walking around the gorgeous castles and palaces like the Rosenborg Castle, Christiansborg Palace and Amalienborg.

Alternatively, try something a little different and fo to the Tivoli Gardens – a 19th Century amusement park with rollercoasters.
