CU Buffs kicker Cole Becker to transfer – The Denver Post

Colorado kicker Cole Becker is moving on.

On Tuesday, the rising junior announced that he will enter the transfer portal after two seasons with the Buffaloes.

“I have been truly blessed to call CU my home for the past two years,” Becker wrote on social media.

Becker’s announcement comes one week after former Jackson State kicker Alejandro Mata announced his decision to transfer to CU, following new Buffs head coach Deion Sanders.

Mata kicked for JSU and Sanders this past season. Sanders was named the Buffs’ head coach on Dec. 3 after three seasons at JSU.

Becker, who was a sophomore this past season, was one of the few bright spots for a CU team that went 1-11. He made 11 of 13 field goals, with a long of 49, and was 20-of-21 on extra points. He also had only seven of 43 kickoffs returned, with 34 going into the end zone for touchdowns.

In two seasons at CU, Becker went 25-of-33 on field goals and 45-of-46 on extra points. His career long field goal is 56 yards. After an 0-for-3 start to his career, Becker made 83.3% of his last 30 field goal attempts at CU.

Becker’s overall field goal percentage of 75.8% is the best among the 13 Buffs’ kickers with at least 21 made field goals. He is tied for sixth in CU history with 25 career made field goals. This year, Becker became the 10th-fastest player in CU history to reach 100 career points, doing so in his 20th game. He closed his two seasons at CU with 120 points, which ranks 12th among kickers in program history.

With Becker moving on, it’s likely that Mata will take over the placekicking duties for the Buffs.

As a true freshman this season at Jackson State, Mata made 12-of-13 field goals, with a long of 38 yards, and 51-of-52 extra points. Both of his misses were blocked. He did not handle kickoff duties for the Tigers.
