WalletHub ranks Colorado as America’s 3rd most politically engaged state

With consistently high voter turnout and a U.S. Senate race that’s one of Democrats’ top 2020 targets, Colorado is America’s third most politically engaged state, a recent WalletHub study found.

The personal finance website released a report Tuesday on 2020 political engagement in states that examined 11 metrics for a given state’s level of engagement.

Those metrics include the percentage of registered voters in the 2016 election, the percentage of the electorate that voted in the 2018 midterm, the total political contributions per adult and civic education engagement.

Colorado scored above average in every category except one, and it ranked No. 1 in voter accessibility policies, the study shows. It ranked second in education, third for the percentage of voters who cast a ballot in the 2016 presidential election and ninth for tax fairness.

Only Washington and Maine ranked higher than Colorado with second and first place, respectively, the report shows. Maryland scored fourth and Wyoming scored fifth.
