Volkswagen has confirmed owners of their ID models will receive regular software updates through new Over-The-Air technology. Volkswagen said they plan to provide owners with new free upgrades every 12 weeks.
They said these changes will help keep the vehicle up to date and improve the customer experience for buyers.
The new changes include optimisation for security features and extra comfort for drivers.
This includes updates to the ID. Light – a light beam at the bottom of the windscreen which offers extra information for energy-saving driving.
Image processing for the cars multifunction cameras had also been improved to help it better recognise motorcycles more quickly.
Drivers may also be able to benefit from better headlight controls after updates to the dynamic main beam control tools.
New technology which may soon launch on the system includes improved battery performance and eventually automated driving functionality.
Thomas Ulbrich, member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at VW said updates would be provided at “short intervals”.
He warned it would soon “become normal for customers” to receive car updates remotely.
