2022 Honda Civic Si Debut Timing Confirmed, Orange Model Teased
The newest Honda Civic sedan is already in dealerships, and the hatchback model is nigh—so, when can we expect the sporty Civic Si models to arrive? The wait, hinted at back in June, won’t be long, according to then-leaked internal Honda documents that appeared on civic11forum.com, which revealed that the Si will closely follow the new hatch this fall.
Honda has confirmed the timing indicated in the earlier leak, that 2022 Honda Civic Si will reach dealerships in October, one month after the 2022 Civic hatchback. The official date? October 19, 2021. And to remind everyone, Honda tweeted out the photo above of a bright orange Civic Si—or, at least, the closeup of its Si badge and taillight.
Sportier Civic? Check.
Why wait for the Civic Si? For starters, it’ll offer a manual transmission. The new Civic sedan is automatic-only; Honda has said it’ll continue to offer the three-pedal option for the Civic hatchback, Si, and Type R models. While that makes it seem likely that the new Si will be available solely as a hatchback, a move that would more closely link it with the Type R above it in the lineup, that won’t be the case. The new Si instead likely will be sedan-only—after all, the previews Honda’s given so far have all been of Si sedans, including the new racing version.
We also don’t yet have details on the Si’s engine, though like the regular Civic, it could likely carry over its powertrain from the 10th-gen model, albeit with some extra power. Look for a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder, again mated to a six-speed manual and driving the front wheels through a limited-slip differential. We’ll find out tomorrow. Buckle in.
